Alex got a Cat this year!

Alien Cat Drinks from Toilet!

"He named her Bastet (Pronounced Bast) after the Egyptian cat goddess. That name proved to be a bit premature, because instead of being a stately, dignified, graceful creature, Bastet has proven herself to be clumsy, whiney, distractible, and she has been known to disregard her potty training.

But such is the life of a young parent. The long daytime hours and constant attention began to take its toll on Alex. Waking up at 2 in the morning because Bastet wanted to chase string about became commonplace, and Alex has yet to see a full, uninterrupted night sleep since she pounced into his life. The almost constant meows for attention sometimes drove Alex to the brink of sanity, “You have food, water, you just pooped, when I try to pet you, you walk away… WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME!?!”

“Meow”

But through it all, Alex has learned some valuable lessons, and truly grown as a person."

Additionally, Alex has been continuing his education at Foothill College taking classes that will help him to get his Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certificate and is also working towards completing a bachelors in Philosophy. He continues to work part-time at PBCC and has added part-time work with Ray. He does IT support for RayBarbieri.com and also works for prxy.com supporting their online collaboration and web hosting.

Ricky and Christian Do Europe

I began 2011 with a fun winter term back at Knox College in Illinois, nothing really new there. Spring term was fine as well; I’m now an officially declared Creative Writing major, and intend to pursue History and Latin minors. Essentially, to sum up my academic experiences: I’m passing my classes and enjoying my time at school.

Back home for the summer I spent a lot of time preparing for the highlight of my year: a month long trip to Europe with a friend of mine. There’s more information on the blog which we used to chronicle our journeys, but here’s a short version: We flew into Rome at the beginning of August, sped around the continent for twenty confusing, exhilarating days, taking many train rides and sleeping in many hostels, planning each day as it came, before finally arriving in Zurich, tired and moneyless, in order to catch our flight back to California. Visit our travel blog for more details and lots of pictures.

A defining aspect of 2011 was definitely my inability to stay in one place for too long; I feel like I’ve been all over the place this year: bouncing between Illinois and California for the last two terms of my second year at Knox, only spending two months back in California before going off to Europe where I crammed in Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Austria, The Netherlands, Belgium, and Switzerland. Than back home to California only to immediately run off to Oklahoma to road-trip back up to Illinois for the fall term. Even this winter break I’ve managed to get up to Oregon and now I’m about to take a quick trip to the L.A. area!

I’m not sure how 2012 will compare, but I look forward to starting the new year and seeing where it takes me.
